Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

At The Shearer's Shed soak in the twin outdoor bathtubs, enjoy a cuppa on the deck with a view, or get competitive with a game of pool. If you feel like getting out and about, Masterton and its surroundings have plenty to offer.

Hop on the floating pontoon and bask in the sunshine covering the lake (lifejackets are provided!). Enjoy an evening meal or just relax in the outdoor surroundings.

Visit the tuatara, kōkako and kiwis at the Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre, 30 minutes away. Mt Holdsworth Rocky Lookout track, Riversdale Beach and Castlepoint(includes a walk to the lighthouse!) are also a 30-40 minutes drive away.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at The Shearer’s Shed are Emma and her father, Henry.

Henry is a retired farmer and self-taught handyman and builder. Having lived on the property for five years, he originally renovated the woolshed as a temporary home for the kids - who came home during covid lockdowns and holidays.

With the unique and historic vibe of the woolshed, Emma, Henry's interior designer daughter had the idea of sharing the space as guest accommodation so it could be enjoyed by others. They look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of the country!

“ The whanau had a great Matariki weekend stay in this lovely converted shearer's shed. The shed is large and kept warm by the biggest heat pump I have ever seen. We loved the island bench - great for communal cooking and playing lots of games. The outdoor baths under the Milky Way were incredibly special. The added bonus was being able to bring our dogs - I was a little worried about the sheep being so close, but the section is well-fenced, and the city dogs preferred the pond! Thank you. ”
