Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

The Jetty offers catering with farm-to-plate butchery from the farm, offering all the meat you need for your stay. You can find out more under the 'Rates and Extras' button. If you have ordered this option; it will be ready and waiting for you in the hut on arrival.

If you choose self-catering, you will need to bring your own food and cook meals using the 2-burner gas hob and cooking plate over the outdoor firepit provided. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need. Read more about the kitchen facilities under 'Essentials'.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage, award-winning, fine dining restaurant Riverstone Kitchen is just 20 minutes away. Also recommended by your hosts, is the amazing Indian restaurant, FishTail, or The Waimate. Half an hour away is Scotts Brewery in the historic part of Oamaru. While you're in the area, Whitestone Cheese Diner & Deli is a must-do for cheese lovers.

For something slightly more casual, The Studholme Hotel or Makikihi Country Pub are excellent choices for a hearty meal. You'll also find takeaways such as fish and chips and Chinese cuisine in Waimate.

A supermarket for stocking up on supplies can be found at Waimate (15 minutes away) or Oamaru (30 minutes away).

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

Relax in the gas-fired cedar hot tub and soak up the views. Enjoy the incredible views across farmland and out to sea. Or take out the little paddle boat for a gentle row around the jetty. At night, spark up the firepit and enjoy star-gazing in the incredible night sky. There are board games and oversized outdoor games for a bit of old-fashioned friendly competition too!

If you want to get out and about locally, check out Kelsey's Bush behind Waimate. This is the last remnant of native bush in the area. The Whitehorse monument above Waimate has great views, walks and mountain biking. The Wainono Lagoon has a wetland walk with a variety of native wildlife to spot.

Active types might want to ride a part of the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail that starts at Mt Cook and ends in Oamaru. You can choose to do sections - and it's kid-friendly too.

If you're keen to explore further afield, you can day trip to Mt Aoraki, Tekapo, and Twizel. Check out the penguin colony in Oamaru, and the fascinating steampunk culture in the historic part of Oamaru. Timaru has Caroline Bay and the Maori Rock Art Gallery which are both worth a visit.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at The Jetty are Adam, Karen and their daughter Mya.

Adam and Karen purchased the property in 2003 and made it their permanent home in 2006. Originally named 'The Teachers' block, a nickname created by others as both Karen and Adam were teachers at the time, the property is now known as Ti Kouka Hills - reflecting the abundance of cabbage trees on-site.

What was once a rundown hill block covered in gorse has transformed over the last two decades into what it is today. This project has been a true family effort, as it also houses Adam's mother, brother, and family. Along with Adam's brother, Eddie, the family also operate a farm-to-plate butchery specialising in heritage breed animals.

Karen is currently a primary school teacher, while Adam divides his time between the farm, the butchery, and overseeing the glamping accommodation - with a touch of teaching added to the mix for good measure!

Your hosts look forward to sharing their 'special place' with you.

TESTIMONIALS

“ Wow, this place is amazing. It was so secluded. The farm is beautiful and the building is amazing, impeccably built. The pond, hot tub and fire pit are all great additions. It is pretty much impossible not to unwind and just completely relax. I would recommend it and will be back. ”

“ Lovely place to stay, very private and cosy. Plenty of firewood for the indoor and outdoor fires. Hot tub was great, even though we were using it in the wind and rain! 100% recommend if you want a couple of nights away from everything. Was clean and tidy, with clear instructions on how to get there. Will definitely visit again. ”

“ We loved our stay at The Jetty. It was the perfect spot to unwind and reconnect with nature. The accommodation is just as beautiful as the photos, and the farm life set the tone to unwind. We woke up the first morning to cows just outside the gate, which is an absolute highlight of the trip. ”
