The Dreamer's Night Inn

Kaipara Harbour, Auckland

The Dreamer's Night Inn is located just 1.5 hours from Auckland City.

Perched on the very tip of a private peninsula above the tranquil waters of Kaipara Harbour, The Dreamer's Night Inn is a unique getaway for two couples or families.

The lovingly restored 1800s settler's cottage has been hand-curated in Coastal Heirloom style - layering relaxed coastal elegance with the imperfect beauty of Wabi Sabi. Timber-lined rooms, sloped ceilings, and timeworn textures honour the original bones, while contemporary and vintage furnishings bring warmth and soul.

A wraparound veranda leads into cosy, light-filled living spaces and one bedroom. While upstairs is another bedroom and a painter's loft overlooking the harbour - perfect for slow mornings with coffee or sketching the ever-shifting seascape.

Nestled beneath fifty-year-old Mediterranean olive trees, a handcrafted cedar hot tub kept at a consistent 38°C offers the perfect spot for stargazing or watching the tides roll in. A private pathway winds down to the water's edge, where low tide reveals perfect stretches for sunset strolls with your four-legged companions, while higher tides create ideal conditions for fishing.

The true joy lies in simply being present...feeling the salt breeze and letting this harbour hideaway work its quiet magic.

“ Lovely old house, filled with so much character and charm that you can really feel the stories in every corner. It was the perfect setting for our evenings, especially since I absolutely adore a good horror story. There was something so magical about curling up by the fire at night, listening to tales while the flames danced and the wind whispered through the trees. The house just seemed to hold the atmosphere perfectly, making every story feel a little more enchanting. It was cosy, mysterious, with a thrilling feeling that makes you want to snuggle deeper into the blankets and listen a little closer. ”

“ Dreamers is an exceptional experience. The historic cottage is beautifully curated with vintage pieces. We appreciated the very comfortable beds with lovely linen bedding. The turntable and vinyl further added to the ambience of the place. The outdoor seating options mean you can always find a comfortable spot, and a soak in the cedar hot tub under the stars is the icing on the cake. ”

“ A great place to just sit and take in the world around you. A beautiful older cottage with modern facilities. Very welcoming and comfortable. You can swim at the beach (small track in good condition) or walk along the beach (low tide), or even better, take a soak in the hot tub (delightful). ”

We loved the open fireplace, the artist's room in the attic, and having space to bring the dogs and teenage kids. The spa bath was the cherry on top. We would love to stay again, thank you. ”
