Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at The Butler's Quarters are Andrew and Merys, their children Tomos, Tegan, and Taran, and pet dogs Mabli and Scooby.

The family have lived on the property for four years since moving from Wales, UK.

After traveling the world, Andrew and Merys decided their favourite place to be was the countryside. Their dream was to buy a farm, and after years of hard work, they finally bought their stunning Central Hawkes' Bay property. With 316 hectares of land and approximately 100 hectares of bush and pine forest, they farm 900 ewes and a 70 Angus cow herd. They are proud to be an entirely Carbon Neutral farming business.

The original building for the Butler's Quarters dates back to the early 1900s. It was formerly used as the shearer's quarters by shearing gangs. The elders in the community are thrilled to see the old building back to its former glory...with a few adjustments!

“ A wonderful retreat away, the setting was stunning and we loved the back story. My husband was making a panoramic video to send to family but stopped short of the bath as I was already in it before he brought our bag in. Pure relaxing, and the inside fire made for a perfect spot while the sun went down and the full moon came up. ”

“ We stayed at The Butler’s Quarters to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. As nature lovers we really enjoyed the location, view and setting. Being on a working farm was great! And the option to walk up to the top paddock for a gin and tonic and admire the stunning view was a real bonus! A perfect mix of comfort and natural beauty. ”

“ This was my first Canopy Camping booking and the place was excellent. There were many small touches like some welsh cakes and a home made loaf of bread or a backpack ready to take with you on a walk. It really made it feel like the place was set up for us to be there to relax and enjoy rather than some one just letting us borrow their space. We were really impressed. ”

“ A Soulful Escape into Serenity. Our stay at The Butler’s Quarters was nothing short of enchanting. From the moment we arrived, it felt as though the weight of city life melted away into the rolling hills and golden light of Hawke’s Bay. This place isn’t just accommodation, it’s a sanctuary. The cabin itself is a masterclass in rustic elegance. Thoughtfully restored with every comfort in mind, it strikes the perfect balance between heritage charm and modern luxury. The super king bed was divine, the wood burner kept us cosy, and the panoramic views from the deck were simply breathtaking. Every detail, from the plush linens to the well-equipped kitchen, was curated with care. What truly made our stay unforgettable were the moments of quiet magic. A pair of welcome swallows had made their nest right at the cabin, and we had the rare privilege of watching them flit and feed, a gentle reminder of the life that thrives here. It was nature’s theatre, and we had front-row seats. The walk to the top of the farm was a highlight, an easy climb that rewarded us with sweeping views of the countryside, where the sky seems to stretch endlessly and the silence is profound. We lingered there, soaking in the peace, feeling completely untethered from the noise of everyday life. The Butler’s Quarters is more than a getaway, it’s a reset button for the soul. Whether you're seeking romance, solitude, or simply a break from the grind, this place delivers in spades. We left feeling lighter, calmer, and deeply grateful. Thank you, Andrew and Merys, for sharing your slice of paradise. We’ll be dreaming of it until we return. ”
