EATING AND DRINKING

Whispering Cove is self-catering, so bring your own food and drink. Ātaahua features an oven, four-burner gas hobs, and a Weber gas BBQ, while Tātahi offers a double-element electric hob, convection oven, and Weber gas BBQ. Both escapes include all necessary cutlery, crockery, pots, and pans.

Just a 5-minute drive away, Te Mahia Bay Resort Cafe serves refreshments on its ocean-view deck. The Portage Restaurant & Bar (20 minutes' drive) offers contemporary cuisine overlooking the Marlborough Sounds. For seafood lovers, Mills Bay Tasting Room & Eatery at Havelock Marina is a must-visit.

The nearest store is a well-stocked 4 Square in Havelock (1 hour away), or Te Mahia and Mistletoe Bay (5 minutes) for basic supplies.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

Whispering Cove offers plenty of ways to unwind and connect with the stunning Marlborough Sounds.

Start your stay with a water taxi directly to your accommodation. Details can be found under the Rates & Extras button.

Your private beach, shared between Ātaahua and Tātahi and another holiday house in the bay, is a short two-minute stroll downhill. Watch the sunrise or sunset on the jetty floater, settle in with a good book on the sandy shore, or enjoy a refreshing dip.

Feeling adventurous? Take a 5-minute drive or 30-minute walk to Te Mahia for coffee or ice cream. For a longer adventure, follow the James Vogel Track to Mistletoe Bay, a scenic 40-minute walk or 6-minute drive, to explore the tranquil Queen Charlotte Sound. Want to get out on the water? Your hosts supply two Sea Kayaks and lifejackets, which is the perfect way to explore the bay by water.

Guests can also book a sailing charter cruise with Sounds by Sail, with pick-up and drop-off right from the property's jetty.

For golf enthusiasts, Nopera Golf Course is located opposite the bay and a 1.5 scenic hour drive around Kenepuru Sound.

As the day winds down, watch the sunset and connect with local wildlife in this restorative cove in the Sounds.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Whispering Cove are Amanda and Tim.

Tim and Amanda, along with their children Quinn and Ava, are proud kaitiaki (guardians) of this special corner of the Marlborough Sounds. The property has been in the family for nearly 60 years, carefully transformed from farmland back to native bush.

Tim and Amanda's vision has been to anchor the property back to the rich Māori history of the area and honour past generations. As kaitiaki, they're committed to moving the property sustainably forward with resilience for a changing climate.

Tim works as a Director and Consultant in the Energy Sector, while Amanda is a Designer and Wellbeing & Environmental Advocate. In the Sounds, the family have run a trapping programme and contributed Citizen Science services to Sustainable Coastlines and MetOcean.

They look forward to welcoming you to experience the restorative power of this special place.
