Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

Road's End Cabin is self-catering. Just bring your own food, and cook meals using the BBQ in the covered outdoor cooking area. During the cooler months, there is a benchtop oven and a single induction hob in the cabin. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

if you would like a special something prepared for you, Lemon Pie Caravan offers scrumptious grazing boxes, picnic hampers, breakfast boxes, and delightful sweet treats. Both pickup and drop-off services are available, ensuring everything is prepared to perfection. You can find out more under the 'Rates and Extras' button.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage, The Brighton Beach cafe is located on Brighton Road, a 5-minute drive south. The Brighton Beach cafe is a great place for a coffee or a bite to eat and is open Wednesday to Sunday. The Village Green Cafe and Bar at Green Island is also a great option for either a coffee, lunch or an evening meal and also serves alcohol.

The closest supermarket is Fresh Choice, Green Island which is located on Main South Road about 12-minutes from Road's End cabin.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

With board games, cards, a hammock and a luxurious hot tub provided - you'll find there is plenty to keep you entertained at the cabin.

If you're keen to explore the local area, head out for a walk at popular Tunnel beach or the Taieri River Millennium track at Taieri Mouth. The Island Park Reserve on Brighton Road is also a scenic spot to visit.

Things to do in the greater Dunedin District are many and varied... Animal lovers might want to check out the Royal Albatross breeding colony, the Orokonui Ecosanctuary or the Monarch Wildlife Cruises. Or for those that love a bit of history - Olvestone Historic Home and Larnach Castle are tourist favourites. The Chinese gardens in Dunedin are popular and then, of course, there is the Toitu Museum, Otago Museum, and Dunedin Public Art Gallery.

For cost-free activities, you can discover the Dunedin Street Art Trail (featuring the infamous Ed Sheeran portrait), Dunedin Botanic gardens, 'Baldwin Street' - the worlds steepest street and the Otago Pennisula Mountain Bike trail.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Nathan and Paula are the owners of Road's End Cabin and they will be your hosts during your stay.

Their rural, coastal, lifestyle property was purchased in 2012 with the view of running a few sheep, cows and chickens which was always the dream.

Nathan and Paula purchased the land and set out clearing the gorse, putting in fencing and designing their home. The property is set on approximately 20 acres and at least 10 acres of that is in untouched natural native bush which is fenced off to protect it from livestock - and it's a great place to explore.

Nathan (being a builder) built their home - which has spectacular views overlooking the eastern coastline including Blackhead, Ocean View, Brighton and as far south as Taieri mouth. It's nestled just below Saddle Hill. Paula worked as a pharmacy technician at Dunedin Hospital for 27 years and decided to have a complete career change. She now does the administration work for Nathan's business - which gives her the flexibility to run and maintain their purpose-built cabin.

Over the years many visitors have commented at how much they love coming to the property, that it seemed the logical decision to create Road's End Cabin for others to enjoy.

TESTIMONIALS

“ We had such a wonderful time at Road’s End, and I would truly recommend it to anyone. We appreciated very much that the hot tub was already heated for us and that we were able to make use of some ingredients that other visitors had left. We also left some things that we no longer needed, but which could still be used. ”
