Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

Ribbonwood Hut is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the gas oven, four-burner hobs and BBQ provided. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

If you’d like to head out, the Bealey Hotel is a 30-minute drive away and perfect for a dinner or drink, or try Sugarloaf at Flock Hill for something a bit more fancy (bookings are required). Arthur’s Pass village is 25 minutes away and offers a cosy café for a hot cuppa.

The nearest store for food and supplies is an hour away in Oxford, so we recommend bringing everything you need before you arrive.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

At the hut, you’ll find board games, pétanque, and an outdoor bath to enjoy.

With Lake Pearson and Lake Grasmere just a short walk away, nature is right on your doorstep. More details are included in your welcome guide.

The region offers plenty of nature walks, including Devils Punchbowl and the Arthur’s Pass Walking Track, as well as great mountain biking spots.

You’re also within easy driving distance of four ski fields – Porters, Craigieburn Valley, Broken River, and Temple Basin – all no more than 1.5 hours away.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Ribbonwood Hut are Kate and Duncan, along with their children Tom, Skye, and Fred – plus Benji the dog!

Kate and Duncan purchased the property nearly a decade ago, fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a high-country farm. Life here is shaped by the isolation, the ever-changing light, and the magnificent surroundings they treasure every day.

They both work on the farm and love welcoming travellers passing through this beautiful stretch of road. The hut takes its name from the ‘Ribbonwood Gully,’ which you can see framed perfectly through the kitchen window.
