Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

Pikopiko Valley is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the 2-burner gas hob and BBQ provided. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage, The Trading Post - French Bistro in Paengaroa is only 10 minutes away. But please note they are only open Tuesday - Saturday: 9 am - 2:30 pm, Thursday and Friday: 5:30 pm - 9 pm, and closed on Sunday & Monday.

There's also Jellicoe St Bar & Eatery in Te Puke (20 minutes away) and Okere Falls Store + Craft Beer Garden (25 minutes away).

The nearest store for stocking up on food and supplies is a 6-minute drive to Paengaroa dairy or 15 minutes drive to the supermarket at Te Puke.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

Surrounded by native ferns, kanuka, mahoe, ponga and kahikatea trees - you will truly feel one with nature here.

Wind down and relax near the campfire, soak in the outdoor bath or battle it out over a board game in the cabin. If you want to stretch your legs, Pikopiko Valley has a wonderful bush walk on the property that takes you to the Kaituna River (which is swimmable depending on rainfall) and a small waterfall. As night falls, take a stroll through the grounds, where the glowworms light up the space, adding a touch of magic to the evening.

Feel like getting out and about? Okere has plenty of fun activities such as white water rafting, ziplining, and the Okere Fall Walking Track (25 minutes drive).

Take a trip to Mount Maunganui, and visit the nearby beaches - or go walking in the Papamoa Hills. For something a bit different, drive 20 minutes to Te Puke to visit the 'Black Stump Strawberry Farm' (with seasonal opening times).

There are plenty more amazing bush walks to try, like Otanewainuku Walking Tracks and Roydon Downs Reserve in Paengaroa.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Pikopiko Valley are Luke, Melz, Tex, Elsie and their dog, Minnie.

After moving from Australia four years ago, they settled into their piece of Kiwi paradise in the Bay of Plenty. Luke works as a Boiler Maker/Welder and Melz manages the farm and duties at home.

Their love for the native bush and farmland has inspired them to share it with others by creating this incredible glamping retreat.

During the spring months, there are copious amounts of pikopiko (native ferns) around the valley. It's truly stunning and is the inspiration for the name of the cabin.

“ Pikopiko Valley was set in a beautiful, tranquil setting. Very little reception for cellular and WiFi made us switch off completely, forcing us into a relaxed weekend, using the outdoor bath and fire pit, plus a little walk to the river below and glow worms. Felt so refreshed leaving here. ”

“ Pikopiko Valley is our first glamping experience and we were blown away by the atmosphere and facility the hosts Melz and Luke created. It has everything we are looking for, peace, quiet, privacy and scenery. It's almost impossible to describe the feeling and peacefulness, you have to come and experience it yourself. We loved it so much and booked our next stay as soon as we got back. ”

“ What a little gem, nestled into the side of the bush with a nice little (steep but short) track down to the beautiful Kaituna River below. A truly relaxing couple of nights watching the night sky from the fire pit and the outdoor bath. We'll be back. Thanks so much. ”

“ I've stayed at quite a few glamping sites now, both Canopy Camping and other places, and I have to say, Pikopiko Valley really stands out for me as one of my absolute favourites. Pikopiko Valley is a truly unique escape in the sense that it is so much more than a beautiful cabin with a lovely outdoor bath and a fire pit. Pikopiko Valley extends far further than the pictures suggest. Your accommodation comes complete with a huge lawn, a track down to a little waterfall and what feels like your own private, beautiful, clean and clear river, as well as tracks taking you to little glow worm caves when night falls. Pikopiko Valley is the ultimate secluded getaway. It's one of the only places I've stayed that has felt completely private and away from the whole world. It is particularly lovely that the family opens up their little slice of paradise to our furry family members too. It is so special and so important, at least to us, to be able to enjoy a luxury glamping escape like this one and to also be trusted to take our furbaby along too. The little details and the thought that Melz and Luke have put into the cabin go above and beyond, even taking into consideration the needs of the furry family members too. I cannot recommend Pikopiko Valley enough. ”

“ With such a crazy busy year so far, going off grid really helped reset ourselves. It was simply us with nature, a river and a campfire. Perfect spot for a memorable engagement. ”

“ This might be my favourite Canopy Camping destination so far. A stunning cabin in a private valley, it feels like you're worlds away from everywhere but still a short drive to the beach. ”

“ We had an amazing weekend getting away from it all. During our stay, the whole region experienced very high winds, but we were amazed at how sheltered we were at Pikopiko Valley. The cabin had a great feel to it and wanted for nothing. Just a brilliant weekend away to switch off and reconnect. The walk to the Katina River was great, it’s easy to see how much time had been put into building the track. Loved it, would stay there again in a heartbeat. ”
