Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

Paddy's Pod is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the 'Grilled' BBQ and indoor woodfire (cooking plate provided). You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

If you're looking to wine and dine, Stronechrubie in Mt Somers is 5 minutes down the road. The award-winning restaurant features locally sourced meals including lamb, beef, salmon and venison. The connecting bistro restaurant also offers casual family dining.

Methven has a great selection of dining options, whether you're looking to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Staveley Store & Cafe stands out as a perfect spot for a coffee and a bite to eat.

The nearest stores for stocking up on food and supplies are the supermarkets in Methven, 15 minutes away, or basic supplies at Mt Somers, 6 minutes away.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

If you're not captivated by the breathtaking views, peace and quiet, or mesmerising sunsets, then indulge in the luxurious wood-fired hot tub for some 'you' time!

Enhance your nature escape by enjoying activities around the pond, such as swimming, kayaking, trout fishing, or a leisurely stroll around the water's edge. Two kayaks and one fishing rod is available for guest-use.

Hire the e-bikes and bike around the pond or zip to the local cafe just a few minutes down the road for a morning coffee (more information can be found under the 'Rates and Extras' button).

For a true farm experience, you can arrange to see the cows being milked on the day you're staying. Please discuss this option with your host once you've received the pre-arrival email sent five days before your stay.

For those who wish to explore further afield, check out Aotearoa's beauty at these scenic nature walks: Awa Awa Rata Reserve, Sharplin Falls tracks and Woolshed Creek walkways, and Ashburton lakes - all less than a 30-minute drive away.

For winter sports enthusiasts, Mt Hutt is less than an hour away and offers a day of skiing/snowboarding.

Experience ice skating at the Staveley Ice-skating and Curling Rink, only 7 minutes away.

Want to try something a bit different? Admire the region from a birds-eye view in a hot air balloon with Adventure Balloons in Methven, 15 minutes away. The Methven region also offers hot pools, helicopter tours and the Staveley Museum.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Paddy's Pod are Allan and Heather, and their children Kaidyn, Blake, and Dane. The family also includes two furry companions, Meekah the Bernese Mountain Dog, and Pixie the cat.

Heather, having grown up on the farm, returned 16 years ago with her partner Allan. The farm holds a special place in their hearts, as Heather's parents purchased its original part 48 years ago. Heather's childhood dream of running the dairy farm has become a reality, and both she and Allan share a passion for the outdoors in this breathtaking area.

As dedicated dairy farmers, they find enjoyment in their jobs surrounded by the stunning views and the multitude of outdoor activities the region offers. The decision to open their doors to guests was a natural one, inspired by a desire to share their piece of paradise.

The name Paddy's Pod is inspired by Heather's Irish heritage, a nod to her parents who immigrated from Ireland over 50 years ago.
