Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

Old Coach Cabin is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the double-ring gas cooker provided in your kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

Despite its secluded feel, Old Coach Cabin is conveniently located just a ten-minute drive from Whitianga town. It has an array of bakeries, cafes, lunch bars, restaurants, food carts, dessert and ice cream parlours and takeaways to choose from. You can find out more here.

The nearest store for stocking up on food and supplies is in Whitianga, a 10-minute drive away.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained during your stay at Old Coach Cabin.

A large original cast iron bath fits two for perfect for stargazing with a glass of your favourite in hand.

Waiau Falls is just a 25-minute drive down the road. A short walk leads you to the base of huge Kauri trees, remnants of the lush forest that once covered the surrounding land.

In the summer, there's also a local waterhole for swimming just two minutes drive away from the cabin.

You can discover more local activities in the welcome guide at your cabin, including options like fishing, boating, beach outings, and scenic walking trails.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Old Coach Cabin are John, Paula, and Tiggi the cat.

For nearly fifty years, the Kempthorne family has lovingly tended to this property, preserving it for generations to come. Nestled amidst native bush, John and Paula find solace in its tranquil embrace, a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Formerly an anesthetist and a nurse, John and Paula have retired from healthcare. With nine years of experience in the hospitality industry and a genuine passion for it, they felt it was time to create a glamping escape of their own, eager to share their beautiful property with others.

The cabin is named after the Old Coach Road, which was originally the historic road linking Whitianga to Coromandel by horse and coach.

“ We enjoyed a relaxing retreat at the Old Coach Cabin. The place is stunning! The only sounds are the stream and the birdsong. I loved the outdoor bath under the stars! We felt so relaxed and recharged out of the hustle and bustle, but were only a short drive into Whitianga for dinner and a visit to the Lost Spring. The ultimate weekend away for a recharge! ”

“ We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, a real sanctuary. We were looking for somewhere cosy and amongst nature to rest and reset, and we loved the old coach cabin. Very cosy and warm with the fire, and very clean and tidy. We wanted something that felt off-grid but were only 10 minutes from Whitianga. Highly recommend. ”
