With a selection of books, an outdoor fireplace and an outdoor bath, you'll find plenty to keep you entertained and relaxed at Māhoe Cabin. Enjoy a bushwalk around the property, or sit back and watch the native birds flit through the bush and wetland.
If you want to get out and about though, there's plenty to do in the area. Woodland Historic Estate (14 minutes away) is a unique and very beautiful Historic New Zealand Homestead and Garden Estate established in the 1870s. Enjoy a wander around the stunning gardens or grab a bite to eat at Garden Grove - the onsite cafe.
If you're a keen walker, the Pukemokemoke Bush Reserve is a 6-minute drive from Māhoe Cabin. The Pukemokemoke Bush Loop Track boasts over 300 native plants including matai, totara, kauri, kanuka and kahikatea. It has great picnic spots and stunning views of the wider region.
If you want to explore further afield, Waihi Beach is an hour drive away. Set just back from the sand dunes, longstanding café and restaurant, Flatwhite, has great food and views across white-sand Waihī Beach.
The Karangahake Gorge is a 40-minute drive from the cabin and is full of hidden gems, including Owharoa Falls along the Hauraki Rail Trail. The Windows Walk,, also the Karangahake Gorge takes you through abandoned gold mining tunnels – with outstanding views.
