YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Māhoe Cabin are Ron, Jax, son Tristan and 2 German Shepherds named Winston & Misha.

Ron and Jax have owned and lived on the property since 2014. They bought the property largely to support and continue to regenerate the bush that covers it. They plant hundreds of native trees a year on their land. Since moving in they are delighted with a substantial increase in the native birdlife.

Jax and Ron love living in this part of the world. Tauhei is a tiny village with a school and hall, and even though it is close to towns and cities, the dramatic hills and bush surrounds make it feel secluded and remote.

Both Jax and Ron are nature enthusiasts, with Jax a self-confessed glamper rather than a camper. Māhoe Cabin is a result of their love of immersing themselves in nature but still having those home comforts.

Māhoe Cabin is named after the native māhoe tree that surrounds the cabin.

“ Our stay was so relaxing. We made pizza and BBQed, went to look at the local sites, sat and read on the deck while birds chirped. We slept on a comfy bed with reassurance that we were protected from any mosquitoes with netting on the windows. Ruru and gentle croaking frogs as a predawn chorus was delicious. A great place to go. ”
