Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

Alpine Bluffs is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the Weber BBQ and double gas rings provided. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

Methven offers a great selection of pubs and restaurants to enjoy. You can visit popular spots like The Blue and Brown Pubs, which serve hearty meals and offer a laid-back vibe perfect for unwinding with a local brew. The Green Parrot Bar & Grill and Ski Time are also a great choice for dinner. Nawab Eater serves up delicious Indian cuisine, while Thai Chili offers vibrant, fresh Thai dishes. Frydays is your go-to for classic fish and chips. There's something to suit every taste!

The nearest store for stocking up on food and supplies is in Methven, about a half-hour drive away (32km), so be sure to stop by on your way to the accommodation. If you're driving from Christchurch, it's a good idea to travel through Darfield for supplies, approximately 1 hour from Alpine Bluffs.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

Soak in the wood-fired hot tub beneath endless stars, then retreat indoors for board games, cards, or a relaxing puzzle by the woodburner.

Adventure awaits just beyond your doorstep with salmon fishing in the nearby river and stunning nature and hikes up the hill (access subject to lambing season). Further afield, experience the thrill of a jet boat ride through the breathtaking Rakaia Gorge walkway or lose yourself in the wilderness on the tramping tracks of Hakatere Conservation Park.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at Alpine Bluffs are Jess and Ross.

Jess, Ross and their children Will, Angus, and Evie returned to Jess' family farm in 2020, continuing a century-long legacy. Yearning for a rural upbringing for their children, they were drawn back to this special place nestled amidst mountains and rivers. The farm offers a unique lifestyle, allowing them to work the land, explore the nearby mountains and waterways, and raise their children with a sense of freedom. Inspired by their own travel experiences, they decided to share the beauty of their surroundings by creating glamping pods overlooking the Rakaia River, offering guests a unique escape in a truly remarkable location. While you're here, be sure to check out their other glamping retreat, Braided Point.
