All About Bikes

Bay of Plenty

All About Bikes is just 5 minutes from the centre of Rotorua and 1 hour from Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty.

This unique glamping escape takes inspiration from its proximity to the world-renowned Whakarewarewa Mountain Bike Park. Whether you’re an avid rider or simply love unique stays, you’ll appreciate the creative bike-themed touches found throughout the property.

Set on a private 4.5-hectare organic hillside block, the hut blends beautifully into its surroundings of native plantings, redwood groves and open pasture. Enjoy sweeping 180-degree views across farmland, pine forest and the bike park beyond.

The setup includes three connected huts: a kitchen and dining area, a cosy bedroom, and a bathroom–all linked by a boardwalk and covered veranda.

It’s the perfect spot to unwind in nature, with Rotorua’s restaurants and attractions just a short drive away. Keen bicyclists can reach Whakarewarewa Mountain Bike Park in only five minutes by bike.

Eating and Drinking

EATING AND DRINKING

All About Bikes is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the four burner gas stove in the kitchen and six burner gas BBQ provided in a covered outdoor area. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

Prefer not to cook? You’ll find some excellent local dining options and cafes in Rotorua. We recommend checking out Eastwood, they offer great coffee and wood-fired pizzas with a lovely atmosphere.

The nearest store for stocking up on food and supplies is in Rotorua, just a 5 minute drive away.

Things to Do

THINGS TO DO

All About Bikes is just a five-minute ride or a 3-minute car drive from nature’s playground, Whakarewarewa Forest Mountain Bike Park, one of New Zealand’s oldest and most loved mountain biking trail networks.

Electric bikes can be hired from Mountain Bike Rotorua at Whakarewarewa Forest Mountain Park's car park. Please note that this hire store is open only on weekends and public or school holidays from 9am to 3pm. If these times don’t suit, there are plenty of other bike hire options in Rotorua town.

After a day of adventure, unwind in your own cedar hot tub or traditional sauna surrounded by ferns, just a two-minute drive away at Secret Spot beside the stunning Whakarewarewa Forest and Puarenga Stream.

If you want to get out and about, Rotorua offers an array of exhilarating activities to satisfy every adventurer's craving. If you're brave enough, try river rafting down the Kaituna River. If that's not enough to get your heart racing, then give the Rotorua Ziplines a go.

A visit to The Redwood Tree Walk is an absolute must! The Nightlights Treewalk, in particular, is truly mesmerising as you wander amidst the glowing trees lit with light and colour.

Your Hosts

YOUR HOSTS

Your hosts at All About Bikes are Karen and David.

Karen is a descendant of Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao. She now lives on the same lands that her tupuna (ancestors) lived on for 600 years before the arrival of the Pakeha. Her surviving descendants left the area after the devastation caused by the Mt Tarawera eruption, 130 years ago. Destroyed at the same time were the world-famous Pink and White Silica Terraces, reputed to have been the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”

Karen is passionately involved with her tribe, but also very much enjoys sharing the lake and surrounds with visitors and guests.

David is a fifth-generation New Zealander whose family stems from the far north of New Zealand. The time he spent up north fostered his love of the sea and his passion for the care of the land. While his career has been in the design field, you're more likely to encounter him sharing local stories while operating their Eco Discovery Cultural & Geothermal Tour on the lake, restoring and maintaining their 100-year-old lake boat, and, of course, fly-fishing for rainbow trout.

Karen and David warmly welcome guests to All About Bikes and can’t wait to share their special place with you.

“ Beautiful place, a lot of thought had been put into the room decor etc. High quality finishes and spotlessly clean. A pleasure to spend time there. ”

“ We loved our stay at All About Bikes! Our hosts were friendly and accommodating. The place is so cute, clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The location was also ideal, being close to everything in Rotorua but still feeling private and out of the way. We would happily recommend it to others! Thanks for having us! ”
